Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a hot topic among Wix website designers and clients... but you would be surprised to know how little most people know about it.
Often seen as a bit of a 'dark art', SEO is more than just a list of keywords on a page, it is a combination of many (many!) different aspects of both the internal setup of a website AND outside influences such as backlinks (more on those later), Google Page Speed and trustworthiness.
When it comes to Wix, there is a misunderstanding of how efficient the SEO processes are; most of this comes down to the fact that site owners are not aware of how important ticking the right boxes is in terms of Google placement. If you have a Wix website, and are looking to climb the Google rankings, make sure you have done the following:-
Complete the Wix SEO Wiz - the easiest way to make sure you have the right keywords in the right place
Get your text formatted correctly - Headings and paragraph text should be formatted as such. This is particularly important for headings as Google works out what the most important things on each page are using these
Add your sitemap(s) to Google Search Console
Use appropriate file names for your images - and fill in the image description box and ALT text box on EVERY IMAGE ON THE WEBSITE!
Link between pages - Google counts internal links so the more you have the better
That's the basics - there is, of course, loads more you can do - including keeping pages up to date, getting links to your web pages from other (trusted) sites, and fixing any errors that may occur in Google Search Console - but we'll save all that for another day!
