Wix Website Design

Wix is a fantastic tool for getting a simple website up on the Internet, whether it be for your full time business, websites for charities, blog sites, an outlet for a side hustle, sports teams, social clubs or anything really.

Why use Wix to design your website?

Well firstly, it's really simple to use. Although I will say don't use the ADI tool! The Wix Editor is a drag-and-drop system which allows you to add text, images and apps quickly and easily with no need to know anything about website coding or anything complicated!

Secondly, it's really flexible. With a load of templates for all sorts of different uses, you can get a good start on what you want to achieve for your website.

Thirdly, you can get everything you need in one place. The Editor is easy to use, you can get domains, email addresses all from Wix. Now this might not be suitable for everyone, but if you like to keep everything together then it is perfect.

My Top 10 Tips for creating a Wix website

Depending on your skillset, if you can use a Windows PC or Mac, you should be able to make a decent Wix website. Here are my top tips for anyone who is looking to set up a new Wix website, or if you've started and got stuck:

  1. Get your brand sorted first - having your brand colours, logo and preferred fonts in place before you get started can save a lot of hassle later on - use the Theme Manager in Editor (you can find it on the left-hand-side of the page)

  2. Be sociable - make sure you connect your social media accounts - and if you don't have them, set them up! Then tell the world your website exists...

  3. Don't use the ADI tool - Wix ADI (the very basic editor some sites use) is really restrictive and will not perform well. Switch your site over to Wix Editor and learn how to use it!

  4. Make sure you go through the Settings on the Wix Dashboard and fill in everything you can - business name, location, regional settings, business settings and...

  5. Set up your Favicon. This is my number 1 bugbear for 'home-done' Wix websites. A favicon is a small image that sits on browser tabs - and not having it set up makes the site look unprofessional!

  6. Go through the Wix SEO Wiz - this will help you get your SEO set up properly. Each page should have - at the very least - a suitable title and page description which is for that page only. Don't be tempted to copy and paste as it will count against you!

  7. Once you've successfully completed the Wix SEO Wiz, your site should be listed on Google - BUT! - make sure you have set up a Google Analytics and Search Console account as these will help you later on (trust me on that one)

  8. Read up a little bit on SEO - knowing how to format your site and pages with the correct heading and text formats will benefit your site massively later on

  9. Use the built in Wix features - there are online booking systems, eCommerce stores, social media integrations, members areas and blog pages all available (n.b. some features will incur additional cost)

  10. Don't be afraid to ask for help - from Divsign, naturally - whether it be your website structure, page design, branding, marketing or anything else.

I hope this helps you with setting up a professional looking website, if you didn't read point number 10, read it again!
